Manual Lymphatic Treatment Level One (non-cancer) and mandatory home study-on demand webinar pre-requistite

Pre-course Home Study 3 Hours On-Demand

  • Investigate the anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology of the lymphatic system.
  • Learn the indications, precautions, and contraindications associated with lymphatic drainage.
  • Explore various causes and types of lymphedemas, including those related to cancer, chronic venous insufficiency, post-operative swelling, and heart failure.
  • Identify signs and symptoms of lymphedema.
  • The accompanying lab videos will demonstrate fundamental manual lymphatic techniques. These techniques will serve as a foundation for the live lab sessions conducted in our other course offerings.

vBasic lymphatic drainage techniques: scoop, bi-stretch, and sweep
vFacilitation of collectors
vDrainage of the initial lymphatics

vHead and neck techniques
vCervical, supraclavicular, occipital, and auricular – node emptying
vFacial drainage
vScalp drainage

3:00 – 3:15   Break

3:15 – 4:30        Labs

vProximal to distal limb drainage techniques
vAxillary and inguinal node emptying
vFacilitation of collectors – trunk and  limbs
vDrainage of initial lymphatics in limbs


Day 2 11-9-25

 Case study scenario- Client  for general health and wellness, relaxation, Full body manual lymphatic treatment

10:45 to 12:45 Manual Lymphatic Treatment for 3 case scenarios:

vA client with chronic headaches
vA client post-op ankle swelling  
vA client post-injury shoulder edema.

Clinicians will modify their manual techniques and treatment to accommodate the client's presentation and apply any necessary precautions to each scenario.

Meet Your Instructor

OTR/L, CLT, CLWT Lisa Marshall

With more than 33 years of healthcare experience, Lisa has focused primarily on oncology for the past 28 years. In 2002, she founded Specialty Rehabilitation Inc. (SRI), where she developed and provided oncology programs and services -- prehabilitation through palliation -- for all cancer types. Lisa's areas of expertise include the management of breast cancer, oncology lymphedema, cancer-related fatigue, chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy, cancer-related cognitive impairments, cancers of the head and neck, and oncology pelvic floor dysfunction. She is lymphedema certified, a national presenter, and a regular presenter at major healthcare institutions and universities. Today, SRI provides oncology education and consulting for; individual healthcare professionals, cancer centers, community hospitals, outpatient clinics, skilled nursing facilities, and home care agencies.
