Course Description

As occupational therapy practitioners, we're uniquely qualified to help patients with subtle cognitive impairments that affect their day-to-day function. Our expertise in mental health and practical approach to treatment makes us an easy referral for cognitive evaluation by physicians. If you take this course, you'll learn how to identify the different types and symptoms of functional cognition, assess co-morbidities and contributing factors, understand standardized tests, and learn practical strategies to use with your patients immediately. Put simply, this course will equip you with the knowledge and skills needed to better serve your patients with cognitive impairments.

Lisa Marshall, OTR/L, CLT, CLWT

Lisa is a highly experienced healthcare professional with over 33 years of experience in the industry. She started her career in homecare and went on to found Specialty Rehabilitation Inc. (SRI) after identifying a community need for woman's health and oncology. At SRI, Lisa initially provided therapy services for Fibromyalgia, pelvic floor dysfunction, including stress incontinence and urinary urgency, and later added lymphedema and oncology rehabilitation programs for all types of cancer. Lisa's expertise and outstanding contributions to oncology rehabilitation have been recognized by many, particularly at the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center in Delaware. She is well-known for her national presentations on woman's health, oncology, and the holistic integration of breath, mind, body, and spirit into her wellness programs. Lisa's dedication and passion for helping others has made a significant impact on the healthcare industry and the lives of countless patients.

COTA/L, CLWT Brenda Crowley

Brenda is a certified occupational therapy assistant who specializes in cancer rehabilitation and holds specialty certification in lymphedema, wound care, palliative care, and oncology. She earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Framingham State College (MA). Before becoming a COTA/L, Brenda owned and operated a highly successful data media company. As an experienced clinician, Brenda treated all cancer types from pre-habilitation through palliation. Relying on her unique skill set, she conceived and implemented a variety of patient-centered programs at SRI including telehealth programs, which she developed during the COVID-19 pandemic to address chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy, cancer-related cognitive impairment, home exercise programs, and lymphedema management. Brenda used this experience to co-author a research study on the impact of telehealth on breast cancer-related lymphedema. In 2021 Brenda transitioned to the role of Director of Marketing and Business Development for SRI’s oncology consulting and education division where she continues to co-create course development and is a course instructor. Brenda has taught at local community colleges, the Cancer Support Community, and state occupational therapy conferences. Brenda is passionate about ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care that results in increased quality of life for her patients.
